A groom got back his pregnant bride’s handbag after a man on a bicycle snatched it from her on their way home from their Tokyo wedding in December, police said Tuesday.
The 27-year-old groom was quoted as saying he was desperate to get back the bag, which contained ¥100,000 in cash, while the bride, 26, told investigators she thinks even more of her husband now.
“Now I love him even more than before. He’s really a reliable person,” said the woman, whose name is being withheld.
Hiroki Sugawara, 26, has been arrested in connection with the theft.
Sugawara allegedly snatched the bag from the bride from behind on Dec. 7 as the couple were returning to their home in Kita Ward after their wedding in Shinagawa Ward.
The groom chased the bicyclist and retrieved the bag, the police said.
A senior officer at the Metropolitan Police Department said the bride was pregnant at the time.
