The government will take every step necessary to mitigate the impact of U.S. automaker Chrysler LLC's bankruptcy filing on Japanese parts suppliers, Economy, Trade and Industry Minister Toshihiro Nikai said Friday.

At a press conference, Nikai declined comment on whether government aid would be offered to the suppliers, which are mainly small and midsize firms, through state-backed financial institutions.

Chrysler, one of the U.S. Big Three, filed for bankruptcy protection Thursday after debt-reduction talks with a group of creditors fell apart.
