A 29-year-old homeless man has been arrested for allegedly killing and robbing a Japanese woman last week, Mongolian police said Wednesday.

The man admitted to strangling Chie Suzuki, a 38-year-old Japanese-language instructor from Hokkaido, early Saturday, they said.

The man, arrested Tuesday, was found with Suzuki's lipstick in his possession, they said.

According to a police source, the man stole Suzuki's cell phone and 30,000 tugrik (about ¥1,700) in cash.

The man moved to Ulan Bator from eastern Mongolia in 2004 and collected empty bottles and other unwanted materials to earn money, according to the police.

Suzuki, who taught at a school for elementary, junior high and high school students, was heading home after going to a party at a friend's home Friday evening.
