Former Foreign Minister Yoriko Kawaguchi said Friday she will urge the United States to ratify the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty soon when she visits Washington this month to attend a meeting of the International Commission on Nuclear Non-proliferation and Disarmament.
Kawaguchi, who cochairs the panel, said she will also seek confidence-building efforts between the United States and Russia to promote reduction of their nuclear arsenals.
The lawmaker said she will make the calls during meetings with senior officials of President Barack Obama's administration as well as prominent members of Congress.
