Prime Minister Taro Aso indicated Monday he would not accept ¥12,000 (plus ¥8,000 due to his age) in cash under the government’s handout plan, senior Liberal Democratic Party lawmakers said Wednesday.

Aso, who had long remained equivocal on the issue, indicated at an LDP meeting his intention not to accept the payment in response to calls from participants to clarify his stance.
