Sales at fast food chains, family restaurants and pub restaurants dropped 0.8 percent in 2008 from a year earlier on a same outlet basis, the first fall in three years, an industry group said Monday.

While sales at fast food chains offering relatively low-priced items rose 1.3 percent, overall sales declined 3.3 percent at family restaurants and 1.6 percent at pub restaurants and "izakaya" Japanese-style pubs and bars, the Japan Foodservice Association said.
