OSAKA (Kyodo) An Osaka nonprofit organization has launched a free cell phone-based Web site that provides information in Portuguese on daily life and employment to help Brazilian workers hit by the economic downturn.

Brazil Net, which can be accessed at brnt.jp , is run by the Osaka Center for Multicultural Information and Assistance in conjunction with a company specializing in cell phone-based Web sites.

The Web site, which was launched Jan. 8, contains information on the locations of government job-placement centers, consultation windows for visa-related issues and how to apply for employment insurance benefits and social welfare. It also has a message board so users can exchange information.
