NARA (Kyodo) A taxi driver in Nara was robbed early Monday of ¥21,000 by a man who pulled a knife, even though the cab recently had a barrier installed to protect the driver, police said.

The robbery, another in a spate of cabby attacks, took place at around 1:30 a.m. while the taxi was in Kashihara, Nara Prefecture. The assailant, a young man with long hair apparently in his 20s, suddenly pulled the knife and threatened the driver.

The suspect, wearing a brown leather jacket, got into the taxi 10 minutes before in front of Kashihara City Hall.

The robbery occurred just after the taxi firm, Osaka Daiichi Kotsu Co., installed a plastic barrier between the driver's seat and rear seats.
