The House of Councilors unanimously passed a resolution Wednesday calling on the government to address the nation's worsening unemployment by taking steps to help jobless people.

The emergency resolution, submitted by the opposition parties, cleared the opposition-controlled Upper House after incorporating opinions from the Liberal Democratic Party-New Komeito ruling coalition.

The LDP considered submitting a separate resolution to counter the opposition but eventually agreed to vote for it because the two sides agreed to revise the document and compromise.
