The Central Education Council submitted a report Wednesday to education minister Ryu Shionoya calling for a more rigorous assessment of academic achievement at colleges to improve education at the undergraduate level.
The report presents guidelines for academic abilities that college graduates are expected to acquire in such areas as methodical thinking and communications skills.
To carry out the proposals, the panel asked colleges to draw up curricula that clarify what they expect students to achieve.
