As British consumers seek a healthier diet, a London farm is the first to grow "edamame" on a commercial scale and has contracted with a major supermarket chain.

Watts Farm, located on the outskirts of the capital, is currently cultivating edamame, or baby green soybeans, a common food in Japan and grown in East Asia.

The farm has secured a big order to supply the ASDA supermarket chain with the beans. ASDA is part of the Wal-Mart group.

ASDA plans to sell fresh, homegrown edamame on a trial basis due to the rise in popularity of the frozen beans, which are imported from China and sold in a very limited number of British stores.
