Minoru Endo, renowned composer of popular songs of the postwar era who died earlier this month, will receive the 16th People's Honor Award, government sources said Friday.

Endo, a Tokyo native, composed more than 5,000 songs, including such hits as "Koko Sannensei" ("High School Seniors") sung by famed singer Kazuo Funaki and "Kitaguni no Haru" ("Spring in North Country").
