Formula One racing driver Takuma Sato joined campaigners outside the Japanese Embassy in London on Wednesday calling for the world's richest nations to ensure a proper water supply and sanitation for everyone in the world.

Sato and members of the End Water Poverty charity handed in 50,000 signed postcards urging the Japanese government to ensure that water and sanitation are on the agenda at the Group of Eight summit next week in Hokkaido.

To highlight the fact that more than 2.6 billion people do not have access to safe sanitation, the protesters made a line outside the embassy, with some carrying toilet seats.
