Nufarm Ltd., Australia's largest maker of crop chemicals, may be interested in bidding for a stake in Japan's Arysta LifeScience Corp.

"Nufarm regularly evaluates acquisition opportunities and a business such as Arysta would potentially be of interest to us," Robert Reis, a spokesman for the Melbourne-based company said Tuesday.

Nufarm is among six companies that may seek to buy the stake in Arysta from private equity firm Olympus Capital Holdings Asia, India's Business Standard reported, citing a banker familiar with the matter. Tokyo-based Arysta is the world's largest closely held crop protection company, the newspaper said.
