NTT DoCoMo Inc., the nation's biggest mobile-phone company, said Friday 70,000 of its subscribers in the Tokyo region had difficulties making phone calls in the morning and early afternoon.

Subscribers of the company's high-speed FOMA network experienced connection problems beginning at 8:35 a.m., DoCoMo said in a statement.

The situation had returned to normal by early afternoon. The company did not give details of the problem or say how many customers it has in the Tokyo area.
