The decomposing body of a woman was found Sunday morning inside a refrigerator that had been left, possibly for a considerable length of time, on the rooftop of a condominium building in Moriguchi, Osaka Prefecture, police said.
The Moriguchi Police Station of the Osaka prefectural police said it has begun a criminal investigation on suspicion that somebody abandoned the body in the refrigerator, which measures 130 cm high by 50 cm wide and 50 cm deep.
The police are seeking to identify the woman. The body's decomposition had progressed significantly, the police said.
A resident of a condo unit in the five-story building found the body in the lower chilling compartment of the refrigerator, which was lying on its back, the police said.
The resident went to the top of the building after noticing a foul odor. When he opened the compartment door, he saw the woman's leg and alerted the police station.
