A 12-year-old boy in Kyoto was taken into custody Monday after slashing his mother's head with a kitchen knife, police said.
The mother, 46, sustained a wound 5 cm long and 2 cm deep, police said, adding the boy, in his first year at a private junior high school in Osaka, told them he attacked her because she complained about his grades.
