A woman found a needle in an eggplant purchased at a supermarket in Nishinomiya, Hyogo Prefecture, police said Saturday.

The Koshien outlet of supermarket chain Ito-Yokado reported the incident to police after the woman complained.

According to the police, the woman bought the eggplant on the first floor of the supermarket shortly after 5 p.m. Friday. After returning home, she found a needle about 4 cm long inside it.

The police said they are looking into how the needle got into the vegetable.
