KYOTO (Kyodo) Kansai Electric Power Co. offered Wednesday to cancel its 30-year-old proposal to build a nuclear plant in Kyotango, Kyoto Prefecture, a project stalled for three decades over local opposition.

Kepco Vice President Isao Aoki made the offer in a meeting with Kyotango Mayor Yasushi Nakayama, a company spokesman told a news conference.
