Police have served another warrant on a 25-year-old man who was arrested on suspicion of a "phishing" fraud, in which he allegedly stole and used personal information from Yahoo Japan's Internet auction service users, the Metropolitan Police Department said Tuesday.

Police allege that Sunao Koizumi, using stolen user IDs and passwords, won about 300 bids for book vouchers and travel coupons worth some 5.5 million yen, which he then resold.

The case is the country's first arrest for fraud through phishing, whereby Internet users are lured to a bogus Web site that uses an organization's logo and name to trick them into providing personal information, including passwords and credit card numbers.

He was arrested Jan. 17 for trespassing in an apartment building in Saitama Prefecture, where he asked for merchandise he obtained through the scheme to be delivered.
