SAPPORO (Kyodo) The U.S. Navy 7th Fleet flagship, the USS Blue Ridge, made a friendship call Monday at Muroran, Hokkaido, despite a request by local authorities for a postponement following a murder in Yokosuka, Kanagawa Prefecture, in January involving a U.S. sailor.

The Muroran Municipal Government has decided to forgo holding welcoming events, which are usually held on such occasions, and city officials will not attend a reception hosted by the ship’s captain.
