TOYAMA (Kyodo) Icy conditions late Friday caused a 61-vehicle accident on the Hokuriku Expressway in Izumi, Toyama Prefecture, leaving 31 people injured, four of whom were in serious condition, police said.
The pileup occurred on a slight curve at around 9:40 p.m., according to the police. The trucks and cars that skidded on the ice likely slammed into each other in succession, they said.
