Binsuke Sugiura, a former head of the Long-Term Credit Bank of Japan, now Shinsei Bank, died of a heart attack Friday night at his home in Tokyo, his family said Saturday. He was 94.

Sugiura, a Tokyo native, was once called the “don” of the LTCB in industry circles because he presided over the bank for decades, as president from 1971 to 1978, then successively as chairman, adviser and supreme adviser until he left the bank in March 1998.

In a time of both misinformation and too much information, quality journalism is more crucial than ever.
