Rescuers Tuesday found two Osaka University students safe after they were reported missing with a third student during a camping trip along the Kanakido River in Takayama, Gifu Prefecture.

Police were still trying to identify the body of a male found Sunday along another part of the river, suspecting he is the member of the missing party.

According to university officials, the two found safe are Shunsuke Nagata, originally from Kanazawa, Ishikawa Prefecture, and Yuki Furukawa, who hails from Kurashiki, Okayama Prefecture. Both are 20. The missing third student is Jun Kojina, 18, of Takaishi, Osaka Prefecture.

Members of the university's fishing club, the trio had embarked on a camping, fishing and trekking trip that was to have run from Aug. 10 to 21.

According to the local tourist board, the area where the body was found is a popular spot for anglers trying to catch char.

Locals say the area gets flash floods when it rains. Local officials said it had been raining heavily the last several days.
