SAPPORO – Former Liberal Democratic Party lawmaker Muneo Suzuki said Saturday he will establish a new party in Hokkaido if the House of Representatives is dissolved.
He said he will field several candidates for single-seat districts and the proportional representation part of the ballot there.
Suzuki said he may run in the Hokkaido No. 7 district or for a proportional representation seat.
He lost his Lower House seat in November 2003 and was found guilty 12 months later in a bribery scandal. He has appealed the ruling.
Expectations are growing that Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi will dissolve the Lower House if the House of Councilors votes down the government’s postal reform bills next month.
