Police served a fresh arrest warrant on a 57-year-old man Saturday suspected of killing his mother and son at his home in Gifu Prefecture, where five bodies were found, the police said.

Taira Hara, manager of a city-run nursing home in Nakatsugawa, allegedly strangled his mother Chiyoko, 85, and son Tadashi, 33, at their home on Feb. 27. He is being held on suspicion of stabbing Takayuki Fujii, 39, husband of his 30-year-old daughter Kozue, in the stomach.

Kozue and her two children -- 2-year-old Kohei and 3-week-old Ayana -- were also found strangled at the home on that day along with Chiyoko and Tadashi.

The police suspect Hara killed the five family members and are continuing to investigate.

Hara seriously injured himself by stabbing himself in the neck after attacking Fujii and was arrested March 12 after being released from a hospital.
