OSAKA (Kyodo) Matsushita Electric Industrial Co. will set up regional recruiting centers in Asia, Europe and the United States this year, company officials said Thursday.

It will establish the Asian center in Singapore and the European center in London, both on Oct. 1. The U.S. center will be set up in New Jersey later this year.

Matsushita has left its overseas employment plans to local subsidiaries. But with the new centers, country-specific employment officers will take charge of recruitment in cooperation with local universities and headhunting firms under the direction of the head office, they said.

The company needs to recruit excellent engineers and managers to win intensifying races for the development of digital consumer electronics and semiconductors, they said.

Matsushita plans to recruit about 650 people, mostly engineers, in Asia by next spring. In Europe and the United States, it intends to employ several dozen people in managerial positions, they said.
