Hitachi Ltd. and Matsushita Electric Industrial Co. are considering jointly manufacturing large liquid-crystal display panels for flat-screen televisions, officials of the two companies said Friday.
With an investment of between 100 billion yen and 200 billion yen, the two companies are studying building a new LCD facility at the site of Hitachi Displays Ltd.'s factory in Mobara, Chiba Prefecture, the officials said.
Hitachi and Matsushita already have a technological tieup in developing next-generation consumer electronics, but this would be their first manufacturing partnership.
