A 25-year-old man was abducted by a group of men in front of police officers in Soka, Saitama Prefecture, and later was assaulted by his captors, sustaining serious injuries to his arms and legs, sources close to the case said Sunday.

The man said he ran into a police box Wednesday evening and sought help from officers there, but they did nothing to stop the men from taking him away.

The two officers who were there, however, say the man neither entered the post where they were stationed nor sought their help, according to the Saitama Prefectural Police.

The police said they have arrested three suspects, including a 34-year-old yakuza, over the incident and are investigating whether the officers in the police box behaved properly.
