NEW YORK (Kyodo) Honda Motor Co. said Wednesday it will start testing its FCX fuel-cell vehicle, equipped with a cold-resistant fuel-cell stack, on public roads in the United States later this month.

The FCX testing program will begin this month in California, followed by testing in New York in the fall.

The New York test program will play a critical role in proving the cold-weather performance capabilities of the FCX and the next-generation fuel-cell stack, which can start in temperatures as low as minus 20, Honda said.

The U.S. tests follow successful winter tests carried out in Hokkaido.
