Four people were killed and four injured early Sunday when a car and a taxi collided head-on in Tsushima, Aichi Prefecture, police said.

Taxi driver Takeshi Kato, 63, and three of his five female passengers died in the 12:55 a.m. crash. The victims were identified as Kumiko Sawada, 35, Saiko Hoshino, 35, and Etsuko Sone, 33. Injured were the driver of the car, 24-year-old Kiyotaka Goto, another man in the car and the two other passengers in the taxi.

Goto was arrested on suspicion of negligence as his car went over a 25-cm-high median strip and into the other lane, police said. No skid marks were found on the road, and they believe the car smashed into the taxi at high speed.
