HONG KONG (Kyodo) France has defeated Japan and Germany in a bid to provide train technology for a high-speed rail link between Beijing and Shanghai, a newspaper here reported Thursday.

The Beijing-backed Ta Kung Pao quoted sources in the Ministry of Railways as saying that China decided Wednesday to use the French TGV technology for the planned 1,300-km railway.
