The Social Democratic Party is set to vote in favor of legislation that would allow Japan to impose economic sanctions on North Korea on a unilateral basis, party lawmakers said Wednesday.
During a policy board meeting, the minor party decided against opposing the expected passage of a bill aimed at revising the Foreign Exchange and Foreign Trade Control Law.
The revision could lead to a suspension of remittances to North Korea by ethnic Koreans in Japan and restrictions on trade.
