SEOUL (Kyodo) South Korea will halt an antidumping probe into four Japanese makers of industrial robots at the request of a South Korean producer, Yonhap News Agency reported Thursday, quoting the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Energy.

The Korea Trade Commission, the watchdog operating under the ministry, made the decision Wednesday after Hyundai Heavy Industries Co. asked for a halt in the ongoing investigation 10 days ago, citing a need to gather further information, Yonhap said.

"Prices are falling further since we filed the suit, so we need more time to survey the market situation before filing again," Choe Young Bae, chief of Hyundai Heavy Industries' industrial robot section, was quoted as saying.

Last July, Hyundai Heavy Industries filed an antidumping suit against four of its Japanese competitors, accusing them of selling their products in South Korea at prices well below those charged in the Japanese market.
