Iranian Foreign Minister Kamal Kharrazi expressed skepticism Tuesday over the reasons for Japan’s decision to send Self-Defense Forces personnel to Iraq for humanitarian assistance, Japanese officials said.

Kharrazi told visiting Foreign Minister Yoriko Kawaguchi that Japan could play a more helpful role within the framework of the United Nations, and that Iran believes it imperative that the U.N.’s role in Iraq be expanded, the officials said.
