An earthquake Monday registering a preliminary magnitude of 4.8 on the Richter scale jolted southern parts of Hokkaido.
The Japan Meteorological Agency said there were no immediate reports of injuries or damage from the 6:48 p.m. quake, and no tsunami warning was issued.
The quake measured 3 on the Japanese seismic intensity scale of 7 in Urakawa and Churui, the agency said.
Its focus was some 60 km underground, it said.
