A 29-year-old Bulgarian man jumped to his death Wednesday at a terminal building in Kansai International Airport, police officials said.

Airport police identified the man as Neshkov Nickolay, a researcher from Bulgaria who was studying at Kyoto University. He had just completed a one-year course at the institution.

The man was scheduled to fly to Kuala Lumpur aboard Malaysian Airlines Flight 53.

After boarding the plane, Nickolay began shouting while walking up and down the aisle and was cautioned by a flight attendant.

He then suddenly ran out of the plane and into the departure lobby, where he climbed on top of an elevator cage on the third floor of the terminal building before jumping about 10 meters to the second floor, the officials said. He died later at a hospital from the impact of the fall, they added.
