A British woman taking part in an around-the-world yacht race suffered back injuries early Saturday after falling aboard her yacht off Chiba Prefecture, the Japan Coast Guard said.

Jane Black, 30, was injured around 5:25 a.m. after falling from the yacht's deck into its cabin, the coast guard said.

The 38.72-ton yacht London was located about 90 km east-southeast of the town of Shirahama at the time, it said. The yacht then headed to Shirahama port.

Eight yachts left Liverpool, England, last October to travel around the world in 11 months. The London was scheduled to dock at a marina in Yokohama on Saturday, according to the coast guard.

The race, sponsored by a British company, is held once every two years.
