Lawson Inc. and the Fukuoka Daiei Hawks said Thursday they will run a joint promotion in which the convenience chain will sell 5,000 special packages for fans of the baseball team at its 758 Kyushu stores.

The packages will include megaphones, celebration balloons and other paraphernalia.

Lawson -- a former longtime affiliate of the corporate group led by supermarket chain Daiei Inc. -- will begin taking advance orders for the packages March 20. It will launch other Hawks-related projects throughout the season, which begins next month.

The company hopes the popularity of the Hawks will lift sales at its convenience stores.

The Hawks, who are second only to the Yomiuri Giants in attendance, hope to broaden their fan base beyond Fukuoka Prefecture through the promotion in Kyushu.
