A man is missing but a woman was rescued Sunday after an avalanche struck them and more than 20 other skiers on Mount Karasawa in Japan’s Northern Alps, police said.

The police in Nagano Prefecture said they will begin a search for the man Monday, depending on weather conditions.

The avalanche occurred at around 10 a.m. on the 3,110-meter mountain, the police said. The woman was rescued at around 3:45 p.m.
