Aichi Gov. Masaaki Kanda on Tuesday announced his bid for a second four-year term, pledging to promote the prefecture through the 2005 World Exposition and the planned Chubu International Airport.

Kanda, 50, made the announcement in response to a question from the Liberal Democratic Party during a prefectural assembly session.

The LDP is one of three ruling parties in the prefectural assembly. The other two are the Democratic Party of Japan and New Komeito.

Kanda, a former lawyer, was elected Aichi governor in February 1999 after serving as the mayor of Ichinomiya and in other posts in the prefecture.
