Police and coast guard officials on Wednesday raided a North Korean-registered freighter docked in Funabashi, Chiba Prefecture, on suspicion that one of its crew had made and used counterfeit Japanese money.
A 10,000 yen note the seaman used to buy a used bike here turned out to be bogus, the police said. The Hung Song 8 docked in Funabashi on Tuesday.
They said the ship arrived in the port from North Korea and was scheduled to sail Wednesday for Hitachi, Ibaraki Prefecture.
