Skymark Airlines Co. said Thursday it will conduct a charter flight to Seoul from Haneda airport in Tokyo on Aug. 23, marking the launch of the airline's first overseas service.

Skymark will use one of the special slots designated for international flights by the airport, which mainly caters for domestic flights.

These flight slots all fall between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m.

The service will depart from Haneda late Friday night and return early Monday morning, allowing passengers to undertake a full weekend visit to Seoul without taking any days off from work.

The cheapest package tour linked to the service will be arranged by H.I.S. Co., a major travel agency and Skymark's parent company.

The package will cost 39,800 yen.

The service will be conducted via a 250-seat Boeing 767-300ER that is currently being used for flights between Haneda and Kagoshima.

At a news conference in Tokyo, H.I.S. President Hideo Sawada said his company and its airline unit will expand overseas charter flight operations later this year.

To this end, they will focus particularly on busy travel periods in which tickets are expensive and passengers generally have limited options, he said.

For the time being, Skymark Airlines will offer all of its overseas flight seats to H.I.S., company officials said.

It will gradually begin to sell seats to other travel agencies when the new service kicks into gear.
