An 18-year-old girl was stabbed to death early Monday and older sister was injured outside their home in Taketomi, Aichi Prefecture, police said.

A 26-year-old man identified as Kazuo Ieda was arrested on suspicion of fatally stabbing Yuki Takeuchi, they said. He had apparently been stalking her for months.

He was arrested about 10 km from the scene after calling police and telling them, "I wanted to die with the woman I love."

The incident took place in a parking area outside the house as Yuki Takeuchi returned home from work at around 2:10 a.m., according to police.

Ieda also allegedly wounded her 23-year-old sister, Eri, who had come to her aid. Police said her injuries were minor.

Ieda reportedly phoned police about 40 minutes later and told them what he had done. He was arrested near the fishing port in Minami-Chita, Aichi Prefecture.

He fled the scene in his minicar, and a knife with a blade roughly 12 cm long was found inside the vehicle, which was parked near the port. Ieda said he purchased the knife about a week ago, according to police.

Since January, Ieda had been frequenting a restaurant in Handa, Aichi Prefecture, where the two sisters worked, police said, and he was there again Sunday night.

On May 13, Ieda stabbed himself near the sisters' home and then asked Yuki Takeuchi for help, police said, adding that she had called the police during that incident.
