A 27-year-old Brazilian man has been questioned for allegedly lighting a smoke canister at Kobe Wing Stadium during Monday's Brazil-Belgium World Cup match, police said.

The man is a resident of Aichi Prefecture and works in car assembly. He allegedly violated a prefectural ordinance on acts of nuisance, according to Hyogo Prefectural Police.

He is accused of provoking confusion among spectators by lighting a smoke canister in the seating area at around 10:15 p.m. as the game was nearing its end, according to police.

The canister was immediately extinguished by police, they said, adding fans nearby did not notice and the incident did not affect the game.

The man reportedly told police he was carrying the canister in his backpack and lighted it because he was overcome with joy at Brazil's victory.

Brazil beat Belgium 2-0 to advance to the quarterfinals.
