OSAKA — Suntory Ltd. in June plans to launch a low-malt beer carrying advertisements for other firms, company officials said Tuesday.

Most low-malt “happoshu” sells for around 145 yen for a 350-ml can, and is cheaper than conventional beer products because of lower liquor taxes. At 128 yen, the new brew will be the cheapest on the market, they said.

The first ad on the Suntory cans will be for Fast Retailing Co., known for its Uniqlo brand casual clothing stores, the officials said.

In February, Kirin Brewery Co. cut the price of one of its low-malt products to 135 yen for a 350-ml can.
