East Japan Railway Co. said Tuesday it will introduce its Suica commuter pass system to the monorail service linking central Tokyo with Haneda airport, beginning April 21.

The Suica system revolves around a smart card featuring a built-in integrated circuit chip. The chip transmits electrical waves to activate ticket gates.

JR East is aiming to integrate JR lines operating in central Tokyo with the monorail, which the railway operator purchased from the Hitachi group for 7 billion yen in December. Suica users traveling between Hamamatsucho Station and Haneda airport until June 20 will have their fares reduced from 470 yen to 410 yen.
