VIENNA – Seiji Ozawa on Tuesday became the first Japanese to conduct the world-famous Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra’s New Year’s concert at the Viennese Musikverein, its home music hall.
Ozawa received a standing ovation from the audience of more than 2,000 after finishing his encore, “Radetzky March” by Johann Strauss. The annual concert is held to honor the Strauss family.
