Police turned over to prosecutors on Tuesday a case involving a man killed in a fire in Nagasaki Prefecture in June on suspicion he set fire to his house and killed five members of his family.

Kazuhiro Hayashida, a 37-year-old farmer in Obama, is suspected of killing his wife Chiharu, 30, three children aged 1 to 7, and his 71-year-old mother, Chie.

According to investigations, Hayashida strangled his wife sometime between June 14 and the early hours of June 15 after quarreling with her over his agricultural business.

Police alleged that after killing his wife, a despondent Hayashida then hit his mother, his daughters Chihiro, 7, and Yui, 1, and his 4-year-old son Sohei, with blunt instruments and set fire to the house.

Hayashida and four of the family were found dead in the house, while the mother was pronounced dead at a hospital due to blood loss.
