A Kyoto-based nongovernmental organization will provide about 170,000 Afghan refugees and internally displaced people with assistance in Herat, western Afghanistan, beginning next month, according to group members.

The Nippon International Cooperation for Community Development plans to extend assistance in education and medicine, while setting up a logistics base in Meshed, northeastern Iran.
